UCF MEN’S SOCCER IN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

The UCF men’s soccer team (7-6-3, 4-3-2 in Big 12) saw its seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end in its regular-season finale last Tuesday evening, falling to the No. 17 Marshall Thundering Herd (9-2-5, 6-2-1 in Big 12), 2-0.

The loss was the team’s first since it fell to then-No. 10 West Virginia, 1-0, on Sept. 28.

But the Knights bounced back quickly, as Drew Hansen authored the UCF men’s soccer team’s most pivotal result of the year, scoring a game-winning goal in the 104th minute of action to lift his squad to a 3-2 double-overtime come-from-behind victory over fourth-seeded Georgia Southern in the opening round of the 2025 Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Championship at the Bell Soccer Complex in  Lexington, Kentucky Sunday evening.

Hansen’s timely score punctuated the team’s dramatic Sunday evening comeback win, one that saw the Black and Gold erase a 2-0 second-half deficit to earn the first Sun Belt Conference Tournament win in program history.

Mired in a 2-0 second-half hole, the Knights kept fighting.

It started with midfielder Clarence Awoudor’s sixth goal of the fall in the 64th minute, when the senior received a feed from freshman defender Mateus Dejesus and snuck a shot inside the near goalpost past Eagles keeper Nate Martinez.

Less than three minutes later, the Knights’ leading goal-scorer throughout the regular season, Lilian Ricol, came through with the equalizer, a beautifully-placed shot from outside the 18-yard box that floated just above Martinez’s reach.

The two sides battled through a scoreless stalemate throughout the first 10-minute overtime period before cashing in on their opportunity early in the second extra frame.

Hansen sent a feed Ricol’s way just outside the six-yard box, and though the latter’s shot attempt was stopped by Martinez, the Georgia Southern keeper could not contain the rebound off his save.

Hansen needed just two quick strides to his right and sent the Knights to the semifinal round with a quick right-footed strike.

Seniors  Skylar English, Reaghan Thompson, Sophia Kotsovolos and Megan Holland were honored prior to the match, which saw the Knights halt one of the nation’s hottest teams and attacks in their tracks.

Ella Chapman secured season highs in both kills (10) and points (13.0), while Avah Armour posted her 14th consecutive match with 10 or more kills and English also added 10 kills and Abby Schomers had 35 assists.

The Knights were coming off a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18 and 25-18) thumping of the Houston Cougars (8-15, 1-11 Big 12) in their third Space Game of the season Thursday night at The Venue, led by 10 kills from Armour, nine kills each from English and Thompson, eight kills from Sasha Cohen and 37 assists from Schomers.

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER TO HOST REGIONAL

The sixth-seeded UCF women’s soccer team had its 2025 Big 12 Soccer Tournament Presented by Allstate run come to a close in the quarterfinals to the No. 3 seed and 11th/4th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes by a score of 3-2 last Monday night at TCU’s Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

The Knights (11-3-5) built an early 2-0 advantage thanks to a pair of first-half goals, but the Buffaloes (15-2-3) responded with a trio of goals over the final 45 minutes, which included a brace from the Big 12’s leading scorer Hope Leyba, to claim the contest.

Liz Worden dribbled around a defender at the top of the box and threaded a pass ahead to Rajanah Reed, who snuck a shot past CU’s Jordan Nytes and ricocheted it off the left post and into the back of the net to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Reed’s goal marked her seventh of the season to tie for the team lead with Worden.

UCF tackled on its second goal in the 30th minute, when Worden played a ball to the far side on a corner kick and Gabi Berchon was there to chip it up towards the goal. The ball went to a crowd of players near the goal line and Ella Holloran managed to raise up and beat of couple of CU defenders by heading it into the net for her second goal of the season.

The setback marked The Black and Golds first loss in their last 10 games and first defeat since Sept. 25.

Behind a game-high five saves from Genesis Perez Watson, the UCF women had extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches in a 0-0 draw at No. 6 Texas Tech (13-2-3, 7-1-3 Big 12) in the regular-season finale last Thursday night at John Walker Soccer Complex.

   Up Next:

The UCF women’s soccer team is officially NCAA Tournament bound, as it received an at-large selection to compete at the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday afternoon.

The Knights, who are 11-3-5 on the season and placed sixth in the Big 12 Conference with a 5-1-5 conference record, are one of eight teams from the Big 12 selected to participate in this year’s NCAA Tournament. The Black and Gold entered the week with the nation’s 30th-best RPI.

UCF earned the No. 7 seed in its bracket and will host a first-round game at the UCF Soccer Complex on Friday at 7 p.m. against Maine. The Black Bears hold a 6-7-4 record and won the America East Championships to earn the automatic bid from the America East.

UCF MEN’S BASKETBALL NOW 2-1

The UCF men’s basketball team put together a complete performance Tuesday night, cruising to a 97-60 victory over Florida A&M inside Addition Financial Arena. It was an all-around team effort for the Knights, as 12 players found their way into the scoring column to help secure the dominant home win.

The victory moves UCF to 2-1 on the season, while Florida A&M drops to 0-3.

11 Knights scored before the midpoint of the first half as the Black and Gold headed to the locker room with a commanding 48-20 halftime lead. The Knights were red-hot from beyond the arc, shooting 7-for-11 from three-point range, while defensively, UCF stifled the Rattlers, limiting them to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field. The 20 points allowed marked the Knights’ fewest in a first half since holding Maine to 18 on Dec. 18, 2023.

UCF’s shooting touch carried throughout the night, as the Knights knocked down 13 of 20 shots from three-point range, including a 6-for-9 effort in the second half. Chris Johnson set a career high with three steals, while Devan Cambridge notched a career-best four assists in the win.

Three locals scored in double figures, led by Carmelo Pacheco’s team-high 17 on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Riley Kugel followed closely with 16, going a perfect 3-for-3 from deep, and George Beale Jr. added 10 points. Jordan Burks, who scored nine points, led the team on the glass with seven rebounds, and the UCF bench once again shone, contributing 51 points to the team’s total. John Bol also netted nine points, while Cambridge dropped in eight.

The team was coming off dropping a high-scoring battle to SEC opponent Vanderbilt (2-0), 105-93, Saturday afternoon inside Addition Financial Arena.

The Commodores got off to an amazing start, knocking down 61-percent of their shots, including 10 3-pointers, as they built a 52-36 halftime advantage, which was stretched to 27 points, before the Black and Gold mounted a terrific rally, cutting the deficit to nine, 84-75, but time and Vandy’s 88-percent shooting from the free throw line caught up with the hosts.

Kugel led the Knights for the second straight game, pouring in 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including a scorching 4-of-5 from three-point range. Johnson added 17 points, while Jamichael Stillwell and Cambridge also scored in double figures with 15 and 12, respectively.

UCF FOOTBALL FALLS TO HOUSTON, 30-27, IN SPACE GAME HEARTBREAKER

In a mission that just fell short Friday night in Acrisure Bounce House, the wounded UCF Citronauts were bested by the Houston Cougars in a 30-27 heartbreaker.

Despite being outgained 433–282 in total offensive yards, the Citronauts’ defense forced four turnovers and registered six sacks, as the hosts never trailed until the final minutes.

Late in the third quarter, senior defensive back Phillip Dunnam, who scored his first career touchdown on a 43-yard pick-6 in the second quarter, snagged his third interception of the game, becoming the first player in program history to record three in a single contest. Since 1996, only 13 players in Big 12 history have achieved the feat, while Dunnam became the 13th.

Placekicker Noe Ruelas nailed a 54-yard field goal, matching his career long. The Connecticut native became the first player in program history to hit three or more field goals from 50-plus yards in a single season.

But injuries to quarterback Tayven Jackson, running back Myles Montgomery, cornerback Braeden Marshall from Lake Mary and defensive ends Nyjalik Kelly and Malachi Lawrence proved to be too much for the Black and Gold to overcome.

UCF WOMEN’S HOOPS EDGED BY CHARLOTTE

In its second game of the 2025-26 campaign, the UCF women’s basketball team fell short Sunday afternoon against University of North Carolina-Charlotte, 66-64, at Addition Financial Arena.

A difficult second quarter (7 points) left the Knights, which outscored the 49ers in the other three quarters, with ground to make up in the final half, eventually holding the visitors to just 27 percent shooting across the last two quarters. However, UCF missed key free throws down the stretch, which ultimately handed the Knights their first defeat of the season. The contest was a nail-biter from start to finish, with four Knights adding three-point field goals to their records and two topping career highs.

Leah Harmon led the Knights in scoring once again, tallying 17 points to surpass her career high of 14 set on opening night. Harmon also beat her career highs of three-point field goals made (3) and assists (5) during this matchup.

Mahogany Chandler-Roberts set a career high with nine points and also added an impressive six boards.

Auburn transfer Savannah Scott has remained perfect from the field through two contests, connecting on all four shots after going three-for-three against Bethune-Cookman.

A pair of missed free throws with 17-seconds left gave the Black and Gold a chance to tie or take the lead and Harmon drove for a game-tying layup with nine-seconds remaining.

But miscommunication saw the Knights foul immediately and Tanajah Hayes converted on both charity tosses for Charlotte with eight seconds left and UCF was unable to get off a decent last-second shot as time expired.

STETSON WOMEN’S HOOPS 2-2 AFTER BUSY FIRST WEEK

The Stetson Hatters women's basketball team got a 23-point boost from its bench but came up short Tuesday evening, falling 76-54 to Towson inside SECU Arena.

Graduate forward Aleah Sorrentino recorded her second consecutive double-double to lead the Hatters (2-2), finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Freshman Sophie Locatelli added seven points and four assists off the bench, while Cameron Thomas chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.

Behind another standout performance from Thomas and a dominant double-double from Sorrentino, Stetson had earned a 70-56 road victory over the Morgan State Bears Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House to begin their 2-game road trip to Maryland.

The win marked a milestone moment for Head Coach Lynn Bria, who notched her 300th career victory with the Hatters.

Thomas led all scorers with 23 points, including three 3-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line, while also adding eight rebounds and three assists. Sorrentino was a force inside, recording her first double-double for the Hatters with 13 points and 10 rebounds, helping Stetson control the glass from start to finish. Mary McMillan chipped in 12 points, five assists, and two steals to round out the Hatters' balanced attack.
