Meals on Wheels, Etc. is asking the public to consider Adopting a Senior for the Holidays by preparing a gift basket.
According to a recent press release they added that for many clients, the holiday season can feel especially lonely and a visit, warm smile and thoughtful gesture can make all the difference. They are reaching out with an opportunity to help the organization make the season merry and bright for seniors.
Program Manager, Rosibel Luna said, “Adopt a Senior is a holiday program that brings joy and comfort to homebound seniors in Seminole County. Through this initiative, individuals, families, companies and groups can donate festive gift baskets or bags filled with small treats, personal care items and thoughtful surprises. These gifts are delivered alongside our traditional Christmas meals, ensuring that every senior feels remembered and cared for during the holidays.”
The organization emphasized that by joining in this endeavor everyone can make each of the seniors feel cherished as this small act of kindness will contribute to smiles and comfort beyond the holiday season.
“For many of our clients, the holiday season can be one of the loneliest times of the year,” said Luna. “Some live alone and may not have family nearby to celebrate with. This program reminds them that their community cares about them. It’s more than a gift, it’s a message of love, kindness, and connection that truly lifts their spirits.”
Hundreds of seniors will receive these gift baskets on Christmas morning when volunteers deliver their traditional Christmas dinner.
“Many seniors express deep gratitude and joy when they receive their gift,” said Luna. “They often say it makes them feel special and remembered. Some have shared that the visit from a volunteer and the unexpected gift make their Christmas morning one of the happiest moments of the year. It truly brightens their day and brings warmth to their hearts.”
Luna also stated that Meals on Wheels, Etc. is so thankful to everyone who participates in this program.
“Your generosity not only brings holiday cheer but also reminds our seniors that they are valued members of the community,” she said. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference one smile at a time.”
Gift baskets can be delivered to the Meals on Wheels office at 2801 S. Financial Court in Sanford from Monday, Nov. 24 to Wednesday, Dec. 17.
