SANFORD — The ‘summer’ came to an interesting end for the LMSA the weekend of November 8-9 with two of the sailing association’s biggest events.

With very cold and blustery conditions set to move in on Monday, local sailors took to Lake Monroe to get in a little fun and competition before the conditions changed.

First up was the monthly LMSA Club Championship Series for the Hayden Trophy, and it was Jim White keeping a stretch of winning efforts going, captaining Bad JuJu to the overall victory and first place in Planing Boat by seven minutes over Displacement Boat winner Irish Juan with Mike Loughlin at the helm.

Completing the podium was Fleur de Mer III under Olivier Fluery finishing third.

The very next day, the boats and crews took on one of the toughest events on the calendar, the Mother’s Arms Challenge, the annual navigation challenge up through Mother's Arms’ river of grass at the east end of Lake Monroe.

To make matters worse, the strong cold front that was coming in from the Northeast was running into warm air coming up from the South, making for nasty looking clouds and stormy conditions.

And it was John Chamberlin directing NacraNA to first place overall and in Multihull Boat over Planing Boat winner Running with Scissors with Terry Warren at the controls and Displacement Boat winner Show Me led by Andy Forrest.

   Here are the results:
