The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) is proud to announce the successful completion of its “American Heroes Concert,” a special community initiative held in honor of Veterans Day and in support of the Church of God Smile Campaign, which aims to bring smiles and happiness back to our communities.
The event took place recently at Alwyn Cashe State Veterans Nursing Home where 67 volunteers from the Church of God gathered to uplift and honor those who served our country. In a heartfelt display of appreciation, volunteers performed eight musical pieces, along with a cadence and a flag dance performance, all dedicated to thanking and encouraging the veterans in attendance. The event included beloved classics such as “Stand By Me,” “Country Road,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “What a Wonderful World.” Residents, staff, and guests participated by singing along, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
Approximately 37 residents and family members enjoyed the concert, expressing heartfelt gratitude and joy for the uplifting program. Many smiled throughout the performances, sharing that the music and energy brightened their day. This interactive format encouraged veterans and other residents to share stories and enjoy conversations, making the day both meaningful and memorable.
“This initiative reflects the church’s mission to follow the example of the love of a mother through sincere volunteerism, unity and compassion,” said a representative of the World Mission Society Church of God. “We are honored to express even a small amount of the gratitude our veterans deserve.”
After the event, one veteran expressed, “I hope we have this concert every Sunday.” And a staff member expressed, “This is the first time I've seen them sitting and participating in a concert without trying to leave or trying to get out.”
Volunteerism remains a cornerstone of the Church of God, which carries out work in five main areas, environmental protection, disaster relief, blood donations, social welfare and smile campaigns. To date, the Church of God has conducted more than 4,600 environmental protection activities around the world.
