Senior Resource Alliance leverages AI Technology to combat Loneliness in Central Florida Seniors

Senior Resource Alliance leverages AI Technology to combat Loneliness in Central Florida Seniors

Florida’s Area Agency on Aging – is launching a program to distribute 284 artificial intelligence (AI) care companion robots, called ElliQ, to local seniors. The program aims to tackle a longstanding problem that’s been identified as a serious public health risk: social isolation.

Created by Intuition Robotics, ElliQ uses innovative technology designed to empower independence and support individuals’ ability to take control of their social, mental and physical well-being. The device allows seniors to set up personalized reminders, track vitals and symptoms, connect with family an friends, and participate in physical activities, games and conversations for increased engagement throughout the day – all from the comfort of their home.

“Companionship, cognitive stimulation and assistance with daily tasks can all be life- changing for isolated older adults – and the ElliQ care companion robots will allow us to extend that support to hundreds of local seniors,” says Karla Radka, SRA president and CEO. “We’re excited to explore the potential of this innovative partnership with Intuition Robotics as we empower Florida’s aging community members to live fulfilling, independent lives.”

The technology has shown unprecedented engagement levels with users averaging 20  interactions with ElliQ per day. It has been proven to reduce loneliness for 80% of users, while making 90% feel better and 82% stay more mentally active.

"We are on a mission to help older adults live happier, healthier, more independent lives at home through our AI companion ElliQ," said Dor Skuler, Co-founder and CEO of

Intuition Robotics. "We’re proud to work with Senior Resource Alliance to help bring that vision to life and offer ElliQ to hundreds of eligible older adults in the region free of charge. Karla and her leadership team are pushing the boundaries of innovation within the public sector by combining traditional services such as home delivered meals and community-based services with cutting edge AI technology to improve the quality of lives of our seniors. We are thrilled to be included in such an impressive effort."

SRA has started deploying its 284 ElliQ machines to the homes of local seniors in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Brevard counties, which they can use for one year free of charge. Of the 284 machines, SRA has designated 25 for local veterans through the Senior Resource Alliance veteran’s program. Seniors and their caregivers and loved ones can check if they are eligible to receive an ElliQ, courtesy of SRA, at www.seniorresourcealliance.org/elliq. If eligible, applicants will be redirected to complete the SRA application form. Anyone 60 years and older who lives in the designated counties may apply.
