The Sanford Cultural Guild, in partnership with Historic Hopper Academy and the City of Sanford’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Neighborhood Revitalization Program, invites the community to attend the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Georgetown Community Garden on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at Historic Hopper Academy, 1101 S. Pine Ave., Sanford.

The Georgetown Community Garden transforms space at the historic Hopper Academy into a place for wellness, sustainability, and community connection. Designed with raised garden beds and shared tools, the garden will support residents of all ages and abilities while honoring the site’s historical significance and supporting neighborhood revitalization efforts.

“This is another great example of our residents and organizations working together on a project with the support of the city. This will be a great enhancement for the community,” said Art Woodruff, Mayor, City of Sanford.

“The Sanford Cultural Guild wishes to thank the City of Sanford and the CDBG program for their support and partnership in helping us bring the Georgetown Community Garden to life, said Robin Theisen, Founder and Director, Sanford Cultural Guild. Our mission is to enhance the cultural significance of Sanford through valuable events and beautification projects. Our future projects include alleyway beautification initiatives, installing pollinator gardens, providing arborist support for historic trees, and highlighting native plants.”

Community members, partners, and supporters are encouraged to attend and celebrate this milestone.
