The Woman’s Club of Sanford recently gathered for its evergreen meeting of our brand new calendar year.
Thanks to member Judi Schuyler as genial Event Hostess, the luncheon was enjoyed thoroughly by members and guests alike. Hollerbach’s German Restaurant provided the delicious meatloaf and mashed potatoes — an ideal repast for a January “ladies who lunch” winter affair in Central Florida.
A highlight of the day was the touching Rose Ceremony, announcing WCOS’ newest member, Theresa Martinez. Upon admittance, the room gave Theresa a warm and sincere group welcome.
Articulate guest speakers included Sanford City Manager - Norton Bonaparte Jr., Sanford Special Events Supervisor - Jennifer Brooks and Sanford Economic Development Director - Brady Lessard.
Bonaparte stated that in his years working for the city, the population has increased from 30,000 to 70,000 Sanford residents. “We are addressing thoughtfully both the opportunities and challenges such explosive growth brings,” he stated.
Lessard touched on the sizable redevelopment of commercial space slated to begin in March. He also mentioned that Sanford will be visited heavily throughout 2026. “Nearly 3.5 million travelers are predicted to pass through Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) this year.”
Woman’s Club of Sanford offers annual Educational Scholarships for rising female students in Seminole County. Recipients from last year are encouraged to apply as well as new applicants. “We strongly encourage female students to apply every year, should they wish,” noted Victoria Huggins, WCOS Vice President. “We strive to offer guidance, support and mentorship to our local young women.” Application deadline is March 26.
WCOS’ Annual Spaghetti Dinner is fast approaching. A Sanford favorite for more than 35 years, the evening fundraiser takes place on Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. Proceeds go directly to local charities and art functions. Interested parties do not have to be WCOS members to attend, and new faces are encouraged to join. Tickets may be ordered online at:
