The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympiad has taken on an added interest for Seminole County athletic enthusiasts.

Lake Mary native and Seminole High School graduate Josh Williamson will be competing in not one, but two, Bobsled competitions for Team USA.

Williamson, who had never competed in an ice sport as a youth or in High School, was a ver good Lacrosse player for the Fighting Seminoles and even played a year of Division 1 Lacrosse at Mercer University, before transferring to Florida State University and earning a BA Degree in Marketing.

The 6-foot, 29-year-old, who now calls Lake Placid, New York, home, didn’t pick up the sport of Bobsled until 2017 when he entered and won Team USA’s “Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful”.

He would make his IBSF (International Bobsled Federation) World Cup debut later in 2017 and has excelled as a push athlete for Team USA making multiple World Cup podiums in 4-man bobsled with a career-best fourth-place finish at the 2025 IBSF World Championships.

He has overcome injuries over the past few seasons, including broken ribs and hip and knee surgeries, to make his second U.S. Olympic team.

He was on the team that placed 10th place in 4-man Bobsled-Open at the Olympic Game Beijing 2022 Games.

   Williamson has competed in 2-man - men and 4-man - open in 2019, 2020 and 2025.

The Team USA 4-man Bobsled team consists of pilot Frankie del Duca from Bethel, Maine, who was born in Florida, pushers Williamson and Boone Niederhofer from San Antonio, Texas, and brakeman Brian Sosoo from Laurel, Maryland.

The team will take part in practice runs today (Wednesday) thru Friday and the first competition heat will be Saturday.

USA Bobsled announced Sunday morning that Williamson had earned the brakeman position for the 2-Man bobsled race, pushing for pilot Frank Del Duca. With a fourth place finish on Tuesday behind a trio of German sleds coupled with the World Cup and North American Cup (NAC) circuits, the pair has slid to six top 6 finishes together and one gold-medal NAC finish.
