All items at the Sanford City Commission meeting held on Jan. 26 were passed unanimously by all present commissioners.
Commissioner Kerry S. Wiggins, Sr. and Commissioner Claudia Thomas were absent from the meeting because they traveled to Tallahassee for Legislative Action Days.
Consent Agenda
A $241,365.97 request for stormwater infrastructure repairs at Park Avenue and Sixth Street with All Terrain Tractor Services Inc. was approved.
A settlement agreement between the city and Oelrich Construction, Inc. was approved. The agreement is for Oelrich Construction, Inc. to pay $59,524.56 to reimburse the city for the wages of city employees who had to evacuate city hall because of a carbon monoxide leak.
Events
A special event, noise, and alcohol permits were approved for the “Trucks Gone Wild -Truck Tugs” event that will be held on May 16 at The Barn.
A special event permit was approved for the “Texas Roadhouse Parking Lot Party” event series that will be held on Mar. 31, June 23, Oct. 27, and Dec. 15. hosted by Ladies 327 Inc. at the Sanford Texas Roadhouse.
A special event permit and noise permit were approved for the “Porchfest Fundraiser” that will be held on Feb. 28 on private property throughout downtown Sanford.
A special event, noise, and alcohol permits were approved for the “Ready, Set, BLOOM!” Brunch that will be hosted by Sanford and Orlando Entertainment on March 28 at Centennial Park.
A special event, noise, and alcohol permits were approved for the “Juneteenth Block Party” that will be hosted by Sanford and Orlando Entertainment on June 20 at the Sanford Civic Center. There will be a closure of Seminole Blvd. on June 20 for the event.
A special event permit and noise permit were approved for the “Love Fest” event sponsored by the Iglesia Misionera Una Nueva Esperanza En Cristo Jesus Church on July 25 at Ft. Mellon Park.
Public Hearings
The rezoning of 11.02 acres at 1201 W Third St. from Multiple Family Residential to Planned Development for the planned development of 160 apartment units was approved.
Amendments to 48.89 acres of planned development at Seminole Towne Center, including plans to construct a new Costco warehouse store at the former site of Macy’s, were approved subject to conditions of approval with an updated master plan.
A preliminary subdivision plan for a 42-unit townhome community at 1700 Lowe Ave. was approved.
Other Items
A $6.5 million contract with Ovation Construction to create a new Public Works Operations building was approved. The new 17,532 square foot building is intended to be a more efficient facility with greater capacity, and it will serve as a location for emergency response operations.
A $269,044.46 contract with All-Terrain Tractor Service Inc. to repair concrete damages primarily due to Hurricane Ian at the Downtown Sanford Marina was approved.
An amendment to the increase of the citywide budget by $148,949,842 for the 2026 fiscal year was approved. The amendment includes changes to the capital projects fund, general fund, special revenue funds, and enterprise funds.
The reclassification of the Public Works/Utilities Administrative Coordinator position to the Utility Plants Maintenance Superintendent position was approved.
A budget amendment of $21,009 for fleet telematics in the city was approved. The fleet telematics program will monitor the city’s vehicles, providing data, analytics, and reports.
