The City of Winter Springs City Commission had their regular Monday meeting on Feb. 23rd. As per the meeting agenda, the meeting discussed an intent to award pond sediment removal services, the purchase of an IT system, and Charter Committee responsibilities.
Commissioners approved awarding a pond sediment removal contract to Allwater of Georgia, selecting the company’s bid from six respondents. The work will clear accumulated sediment and debris from stormwater pipe outfalls in city ponds to restore water flow and prevent flooding.
Among the presentations, Winter Springs commissioners heard a non-binding preliminary review presentation from NNRJ Enterprises, seeking to develop a Strickland Brothers 10 Minute Oil Change facility at Sutton Crossings.
“The town center was supposed to be walkable,” said Mayor Kevin McCan. “This is not necessarily what I’d like to see in our town center, but I also understand the challenges and I understand the need.”
Moving along the consent agenda, commissioners approved the purchasing of an IT system for multi-year terms. Funding was budgeted in the FY26 budget for a brand new IT system.
Finally, the charter review committee planning continues. Commissioners discussed next steps for establishing a charter review committee, building on framework discussions from their last meeting.
Ending the meeting strongly, the Florida City/County Managers Association recognized Winter Springs for 45 years operating under the council-manager form of government.
With the meeting minutes from Feb. 9th approved, the commission's next regular meeting was scheduled for Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Agendas and live streams are available at winterspringsfl.org.
