Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) volunteers recently helped improve the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Garden’s facilities and animal habitats through landscaping and beautification efforts.
Volunteers from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) rolled up their sleeves to lend a helping hand at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens during FPL’s annual Power to Care week, a statewide volunteer initiative dedicated to strengthening communities across Florida.
More than 30 FPL volunteers spent the day improving the zoo’s facilities through landscaping efforts – creating a safer and cleaner environment for animals and guests. The effort included shoveling and general beautification projects designed to improve the overall experience for visitors while supporting animal habitats.
“We believe in showing up for the communities we proudly serve,” FPL External Affairs Manager Linda Dubea said. “Our team dedicated the day to making meaningful improvements that benefit the animals and the families who visit, and that kind of community involvement is what our Power to Care initiative is all about.”
The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens spans nearly 120 acres and requires ongoing upkeep to ensure exhibits, walkways and shared spaces remain in top condition for both animal care and public access. Volunteer efforts like this help advance improvement projects that might otherwise take longer to complete.
“Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for both our animals and our guests requires ongoing care and collaboration,” said Richard E. Glover, Jr., CEO at the Zoo. “When community partners step in to assist with improvement projects, it strengthens our ability to serve families and care for the animals who call the Zoo home.”
This event is one of over 30 volunteer projects across more than 10 counties that took place during FPL’s Power to Care Week. Now in its 18th year, the initiative brings hundreds of FPL volunteers together statewide as part of the company’s commitment to powering strong communities.
