GFWC Lake Mary Woman’s Club members, families and friends welcomed home women veteran heroes from the first all female veterans Flight of Honor in Florida.
The Club is honored to have member Karyn Rinaldi, retired Navy officer, who was selected for the March 10-11 GFWC Florida Flight to Honor. Ms. Rinaldi served 20 years in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps with a focus on Facility Management and Construction Management. After retiring, Karyn became involved with Honor Flight Central Florida, a 501 (c)(3) organization that honors WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War Veterans. She connected with the GFWC Lake Mary Woman's Club, presenting a program on Honor Flight, and shortly thereafter joined the Club, "impressed by their energy and talents."
The flight arrived at 7:45 pm* on Wednesday, March 11, at Lakeland Linder International Airport, Warbird ramp, 3890 Laird Ave., Lakeland, FL. (*subject to change).
Balloon animals, face painting, food trucks, DJ, and more! Onlookers wore red, white, and blue and brought their kids to celebrate Karyn.
Rinaldi was joined by welcome signs and posters, and well-deserved smiles and cheers to welcome the heroes, especially Karyn!
The Lake Mary Woman’s Club members collaborated with GFWC Florida clubs throughout the state to raise over $200,000.00, making it possible to recognize and honor over 170 women veterans. The flight is the GFWC Florida President, Sara Dessureau, president's project. All expenses were paid for the veterans.
