The City of Oviedo recently hosted an event in light of World Drowning Prevention Day.
In 2021, the World Health Organization chose a day to raise awareness of drowning as a global health issue. WHO recognizes the impacts on families and communities and offers solutions to prevent drownings. From 2019 to 2021, Florida had the highest rate of unintentional drowning deaths in children 1 to 4 years of age. The lure of water is even greater for children with autism.
The City of Oviedo Aquatics hosts swim lessons for all ages that include group swim lessons and one-on-one swim lessons. Classes range from babies, 6 months to 3 years old up to adult swimming. The Aquatics instructors also have beginner and advanced swimming lessons for adults.
“We recognize the need for swim lessons for our community,” said Recreation and Parks Director Paul Belden. “We have a team of instructors who are fully certified and can teach the basics to anyone who wants to learn how to swim, or have their children learn how to swim.”
The City of Oviedo recently shared an opportunity for folks to attend swim lessons at Riverside Park, 1600 Lockwood Blvd, Oviedo, talk to an expert and have the opportunity to speak to families about the importance of learning how to swim.
