The Sanford City Commission held a regular meeting on Feb. 23.
Consent Agenda
The commissioners approved $34,940 to Cathcart Construction Company for water main break repairs and a budget transfer of $31,394 to purchase a vehicle for the Parks and Recreation Department.
A $250 sponsorship by the Sanford Police Department to the Special Olympics Florida for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and a $1,000 sponsorship by the department to the Goldsboro Front Porch Council were approved.
Special events permit applications and some noise and alcohol permits were approved for upcoming events including the 15th Annual St. Johns River Festival of the Arts from April 24 to April 26; Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on May 25; the Ride to Remember on June 6; Sanford Food Truck Fiesta Summer Nights on June 13, July 11, and Aug. 18; Trucks Gone Wild – Truck Tugs on Nov. 7; and Cindy’s Dance Studio Hot Rod Halloween on Oct. 24.
Engineering service contracts with 13 firms were renewed, and six new ones were approved.
An agreement for a partnership with CareerSource for a work experience program was approved.
Public Hearings
The commission unanimously upheld the Historic Preservation Board’s denial of Certificates of Appropriateness for 809 Locust Ave. and 817 Locust Ave. for not complying with approved plans that required a raised elevation.
Other Items
A petition for the annexation of a new residence at 1765 Roseberry Lane was approved so city water and sewer services can be provided to it.
A resolution to adopt rental fees for golfing and events at the Mayfair Golf Course was approved.
A resolution was approved to create a temporary GIS analyst position in the Public Works and Utilities Department to allow a new analyst to transition into a permanent position.
The amendment of a grant agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the Sanford South Wastewater Treatment Facility was approved, along with a sand and grit removal project at the South Water Resource Center. A loan agreement with the department for a main water treatment plant project was also approved.
A request to approve rankings of a request for qualifications to begin negotiations with Wharton-Smith, Inc. for main water treatment plant improvements.
The next regular meeting was March 9.
