Winter Springs High School Student Writer
At Winter Springs High School, each and every staff member gives back to the world with their insight, but a certain teacher deserves some extra spotlight. It may only be her first year teaching at WSHS, but Lisa Mas has already made a meaningful impact.
At school, she teaches various sciences, her interest in the subject stemming back to her childhood. When questioned about why she chose to focus on Science, her first statement was, “The electron, Margo! The electron!” Mrs. Mas is fascinated by the sciences, intrigued by the ability to see reactions and change in real time. She hopes to build this same enthusiasm with her students, working to make her class interesting and educational.
In total, she has been teaching 12 to 15 years, but life did as it does and she chose to take a break so that she could focus on her dream of being a mother. She raised her three kids — JD, Abby, and Grace, with great focus and care. She supported their interests and encouraged them forward, until inevitably, they grew up. Mrs. Mas returned to teaching after the interval.
She never thought she would be a teacher, but when she realized that it was perfect for the lifestyle she wanted, she took the opportunity. As an educator, she believes that the payout of her job is the students. She says that “if one student leaves knowing they are important, [she has] done [her] job.” As well as setting her students up for success in the real world, she hopes they learn the wonders of science in the meantime.
Outside of work, her family and downtime mean the world to her. When she is not at her daughter’s volleyball games, Mrs. Mas loves to watch Oscar nominated films such as One Battle After Another and Sinners with her family, as well as finishing a book every two weeks. She favors her down time, as do most of us, but she loves the activity and social aspect of her job at WSHS.
Mrs. Mas is a teacher and person who adds so much to her environment. She cares deeply for her family and students, working her hardest to assure that everyone feels like enough.
