Late February and early March saw several events taking place under the auspices of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association and the 2026 sailing season is about to get hot and heavy.
The first Ladies on the Lake Club Race Series finally got to kick of their season and the highly successful Trans Monroe - Southern Challenge was returned to a 2-day regatta and several vessels made their way to Sanford to take part in three different Portsmouth classes.
After that, and the changing to Daylight Saving Time, the weekly Malibu Rum Race season ran its first event and it was a Baumer evening. With a steady 8 knots and clear skies, Scott Baumer and crew on Second Wind took first place and Rich Gailey won the drawing for the bottle of rum.
In this past Wednesday’s Vudu Race its was Andy Forrest directing Show Me to victory over Kind of Blur under James Moran and Bob Fellingham piloting Shajaira to a third place finish.
The month of March will wrap up with Rum Racing tonight (Wednesday) and the March Sine Metu Jameson Iris Whiskey Race on Sunday.
Anyone with a Portsmouth rated boat is welcome to attend the Run Race, with cocktails, dinner and scores at The Breezeway afterwards.
If you are looking to crew, be down at the ramp by 5:30 p.m. If you are sailing, the starting window will be between 6 p.m.-and-6:05 p.m.
The Sine Metu Jameson Irish Whiskey Race will have a start window of 1:25 p.m.
