An 18-year-old was pronounced dead after a tragic crash in Volusia County on Wednesday, around 6:45 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the driver and a 17-year-old passenger were traveling in a 2016 Nissan Versa eastbound on Enterprise Osteen Road West of Hanging Moss Lane. Ahead of them, a 2018 Toyota 4Runner was driving.
According to the statement, in an attempt to make a left turn, the Toyota slowed down. The Nissan did not slow down or stop and swerved left, hitting the front of the Toyota as it was turning. The impact caused the Nissan to go off of the road, collided with a tree and flipped on its right side.
The Nissan driver and passenger were taken to the Lake Monroe Hospital, where the driver was pronounced deceased. The report shows that he did not have a seatbelt on. The passenger had minor injuries and the 45-year-old Toyota driver remained on the scene and had no injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
