Fire at Henry's Depot, stopped by a fearless employee

Fire at Henry's Depot, stopped by a fearless employee

On Monday around 11:30 p.m., a small fire broke out in one of the kitchens at Henry’s Depot, a food hall in downtown Sanford.

The owner says that the “heroic efforts” of one of the staff members is the reason the initial fire was subdued until the fire department got there.

A maintenance team member, named Nuney, was in the building after hours and noticed a fire inside of the Sweet & Salty Island Grindz space. According to the statement, Nuney went to alert Ethan, an employee at the Greenery Creamery, to call 911. Ethan “sprang into action.”

“Without hesitation, Ethan instructed his dad to call 911 as he rushed into the building,” Sean Kelley, owner of Henry’s Depot said. “As seen in the video footage, Ethan ran directly to the fire extinguisher and began to combat the fire. Thanks to Ethan's quick thinking and brave actions, the fire was contained before it could cause significant damage.” He went through four fire extinguishers as he tried to control the flames before the Sanford Fire Department arrived.

Henry’s Depot is a beloved Sanford staple that features local food vendors and serves as a place where the community gathers to enjoy live music and special events. The efforts of Ethan, impact many. “His heroism undoubtedly prevented a potentially devastating outcome. The entire Henry's Depot family owes Ethan a tremendous debt of gratitude,” said Kelley. “Without his intervention, nine small business owners and dozens of employees might have lost their livelihoods. Ethan's courageous efforts exemplify the spirit of community and support that we cherish at Henry's Depot.”
