A Community-Wide Invitation

A Community-Wide Invitation

Join the GFWC Lake Mary Woman’s Club and the City of Lake Mary on Saturday, April 25, to share a “tree story” of Mrs. Lois Jackson, a long-time resident, activist in the city, and the President of the Lake Mary Woman’s Club, 2002-2005.  The members of the Club, along with the City Mayor David Mealor, will plant a tree, share her story, and place hand-painted memory rocks around the base of the tree.

The Club is recognizing Lois Jackson’s legacy on National Arbor Day, founded on April 10, 1872, in Nebraska, by J. Sterling Morton. It was established as a dedicated day for planting trees and became a nationwide observance in 1970.

“There is no aristocracy in trees. They are not haughty. They will thrive near the humblest cabin just as well as they will in the shadow of a king's palace. There is a true triumph in the unswerving integrity and genuine democracy of trees.”    J. Sterling Morton
