Welcome Back, Snarky!
Snarky, I like the historical overview of the 'Lake Carola Pond' that is now
going away. I'm one of the few ole' guys who witnessed how it came about
and remember the story about then city manager, Pete Knowles, needing fill
dirt. It seemed like a good idea at the time having a fish pond in Fort Mellon
Park. I've been cautious about the pond being there since it turned into a
duck and bird sanctuary over the ensuing years with ever growing numbers.
Because with the hundreds of ducks and birds the area is carpeted with
a thick existence of 'do-do' which surely is a health hazard, especially
considering the kids who constantly run around the pond chasing the
ducks and birds.
A city pavilion of some sort would be a good replacement. Of course this
eliminates honoring the General Sanford relative using her name for that
nasty pond. Nobody knows or remembers her these days. She is
appropriately mentioned in the General Sanford Museum.
Welcome back, Snarky!!!! We are glad you've resurfaced to give Sanford
residents and government things to ponder.
