HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, the only hospital offering complete cardiac care in Seminole and west Volusia Counties, recently added new treatment options for patients with heart disease.
The hospital, a part of the HCA Florida Cardiovascular Network, is the only local hospital to offer transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) – a minimally invasive treatment for aortic stenosis. Many patients in need of heart valve replacement previously had open heart surgery as their only option, potentially putting patients of advanced age or dealing with other medical conditions at high risk. The TAVR procedure allows the patient to receive a new valve through a catheter inserted through a small incision in the groin. The TAVR procedure minimizes the potential complications of a traditional open-heart procedure, resulting in better outcomes.
HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital has also added new technology in its cardiac electrophysiology lab for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, a leading cause of stroke and heart failure. This innovative procedure, known as pulsed field ablation, treats abnormal cells while also allowing the doctor to use a traditional radio frequency ablation option during the procedure, resulting in faster, safer treatment for the patient. The electrophysiology team completed its 100th pulsed field ablation procedure, marking a milestone in advanced cardiac care for the local community.
“We are honored to be part of a world class team of cardiac specialists within the HCA Florida Cardiovascular Network, dedicated to providing leading-edge treatment options for patients living with heart disease,” said John Gerhold, the hospital’s CEO. “TAVR for treatment of aortic valve disease and pulsed field ablation for atrial fibrillation are two examples of how our cardiac team is employing the newest treatments available to improve safety and outcomes for our patients.”
The HCA Florida Cardiovascular Network connects patients to a world-class team of heart specialists who perform advanced diagnostic and surgical procedures to treat heart disease. In Seminole and West Volusia counties, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital’s multidisciplinary team aims to help prevent, diagnose and treat conditions early to maximize overall health.
That commitment is evident in exceptional patient outcomes for which the hospital has recently been recognized by industry leaders. The American Heart Association has awarded HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital its 2025 Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS Target: Honor Roll Elite Achievement. The hospital also earned five-star recognitions from Healthgrades, the leading site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital, for treatment of heart failure, defibrillator procedures and pacemaker procedures. In addition, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital has been recognized by its parent company as HCA Healthcare’s top performer in patient outcomes out of its 64 TAVR programs nationwide.
“Our expert team is grateful for these recognitions from some of the nation’s leading healthcare organizations and cardiac experts,” said Gerhold. “The most meaningful recognition for our colleagues at every level, though, is seeing our patients discharged after successful treatment, on the road to wellness, returning home to enjoy a healthier tomorrow.”
