SANFORD — Last Wednesday, Seminole High School officially celebrated the ribbon cutting of the All Seasons Beach Complex, the brand new beach volleyball courts made possible by the incredibly generous support of All Seasons Pools.
But the excitement didn’t stop there — immediately following the ceremony, Seminole High hosted the District Beach Volleyball Tournament, putting these beautiful new courts into action right away!
SHS was honored to have such strong community support in attendance, including Principal Michael Pfieffer, Athletic Director Woody Cox, Booster Club President Michelle Wright, Booster Club board members Janelle Dunn, Marisa Domster Seibert, Brian Ellis Brown, SCPS School Board Members Autumn Garick and Kristine Morris Kraus, Seminole County Commissioners Lee Constantine and Bob Dallari, Sanford City Commissioner Kerry Wiggins Sr., Assistant Superintendent of Operations Dr. Mark Mullins, and All Seasons Pools representatives Andrea Quattry Rickheim and Don Garden.
This six court facility is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together to invest in student-athletes and the future of Seminole High.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this vision a reality — we can’t wait to see our athletes continue to compete and thrive on these courts! _ Dave Sprinkle.
On the courts, it was top-seeded Hagerty (12-2) blanking No. 2 Lake Brantley (15-3), 5-0, in the Class 3A-District 3 Championship Match. Also winning titles at other facilities were Winter Springs in Class 2A-District 7 and Orangewood Christian in Class 1A-District 6.
The Regional Tournaments _ which included Hagerty, Lake Brantley, Seminole and Lake Howell in Class 3A, Winter Springs in Class 2A and Orangewood Christian and The Geneva School in Class 1A _ kicked off with the Quarterfinals on Monday and the winners will advance to the Semifinals tomorrow (Thursday) and the Regional Championships will be played next Tuesday (May 5).
Meanwhile, Oviedo was the only District Champion in Flag Football and was joined by Qualifier Seminole in the Regional Quarterfinals on Tuesday. The winners will advance to the Semifinals next Monday (May 4) and the Finals will be next Thursday (May 7).
It was a good week on the indoor volleyball courts as Lake Howell won its fourth straight Class 2A-District 5 Championship, Lake Brantley won its second consecutive Class 3A-District 2 title and Crooms Academy collected its first Class 1A-District 5 trophy.
The match ups for the Regional Quarterfinals was not released until Sunday and the Quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, the Semifinals will be contested next Tuesday (May 5) and the Finals will be on Friday, May 8.
The District Softball Tournaments began on Monday and the Championship Games are set for Thursday.
