SANFORD — The last half of the month of April was extremely busy for the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) with five races/events being contested.
But there were also a couple of big happenings off the water for the Club as the group held its annual Open House and a milestone Birthday Party for a local legend.
Celebrating a Legend: Fisk Hayden’s 90th Birthday.
Happy 90th Birthday to a true icon of the sailing world, Fisk Hayden! For nine decades, Fisk has been defined by the snap of a sail and the pull of the tide. To those in the racing community, he isn't just a competitor; he is a masterclass in tactics, a steward of the sea, and a mentor to generations of sailors who learned that winning isn't just about speed—it’s about reading the wind before anyone else feels it.
Fisk’s influence on the sport is immeasurable. His legacy is written in the wake of countless boats and the stories shared in yacht clubs around the world.
Here’s to Fisk:

* A lifetime of inspiring others to find their own "perfect trim.”

* Due to low water levels on Lake Monroe the City of Sanford has closed the downtown boat ramps, forcing several special events to be postponed until further notice. The weekly Rum Race will continue, however. Check out the calendar for updates.
Today (May 6), 13, 20, 27 _ Breezeway Rum Racing. Anyone with a Portsmouth rated boat is welcome to attend the Rum Race, with cocktails, dinner and scores at The Breezeway afterwards.
If you are looking to crew, be down at the ramp by 5:30 p.m. If you are sailing, the starting window will be between 6 p.m.-and-6:05 p.m.
Saturday, May 9 _ LMSA Club Championship Series for the Hayden Cup, Skippers Meeting set for noon.
