The Oviedo Police Department recently officially welcomed a new officer to its ranks. Maurasse Belony was sworn in during a ceremony at City Council Chambers.
Officer Belony recently took the oath of office, administered by Police Chief Dale Coleman.
“Being sworn-in is one of the proudest moments for a police officer,” said Chief Coleman. “Being in Oviedo means we are family and I am pleased Officer Belony is part of our family.”
Belony was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale and is currently serving in the military, while simultaneously serving as a police officer. Belony joined the Army after graduating high school and moved to Central Florida in 2025 before joining Oviedo Police and going through the academy.
Belony knew he wanted to be a police officer since elementary school, after he met a police officer at a career day event. That meeting solidified his desire to serve and protect others.
Belony was pinned by his wife and both will soon be new parents to a baby girl.
The ceremony was attended by City staff, command staff and fellow officers.
