Amelia King will be a senior in the 2024-2025 school year at Lake Howell High School and a dual-enrolled student who is passionate about writing, dancing, singing, music and foreign languages/cultures. She’s written a blog for cyberbullying.org, been a speaker for the Aaron Judge Foundation's Leadership Master Class Webinar with Dr. Hinduja and was a winner of SSC's Business Start-Up competition where she was the only high school student competing against college students. Being a founding member and part of the leadership team for both Step Team and Health and Wellness Club as well as being the founder and president of Hawks' International Connections Club has been a fun way of spreading positivity and diversity.
Just as Lake Howell has done recently, legends light up the path to a reality connecting the world in its past, present, and future. Each and every step makes an impact. Thereupon, as Lake Howell High School celebrates its 50th anniversary, it opens the door to new possibilities and growth, on its way toward weaving legacies. This milestone year has been marked by the opening of a state-of-the-art building dedicated to STEM subjects, replacing the old buildings 9 and 10. Thanks to the funding from local taxpayers, this new STEM center stands as a testament to the power of unity and community, encompassing a variety of subjects, which are taught by various talented staff and teachers. The slogan for this school year, "We are one," represents the unity amongst students with differing backgrounds and heritages at Lake Howell High School.
Recently, the Closing the Gap Award was bestowed upon Lake Howell administration, highlighting the school's dedication to fostering an inclusive and high-achieving educational environment for all. In terms of this grand achievement, the community's growth is not measured by mere numbers alone. In addition to this achievement, Lake Howell High School was just recently named an 'A' school. We are all very proud of that.
This growth, as a whole, has resulted from a structured assembly of students from various backgrounds. A stark improvement in test scores, graduation rates, and overall academic performance represent the hard work of the Lake Howell community to support student success. In fact, the 50th anniversary of Lake Howell High accurately represents the age of many students' parents -- the parents of second-generation Silver Hawks.
In the days to come, Lake Howell High is set up for its "blueprint for success" and looks towards the future with a hunger for optimism. With great forward momentum that seals the space between the past and the future, its proud success is unstoppable. Happy anniversary, Lake Howell. In the words of Principal Howard, "As always, go Silver Hawks, and stay Hawk strong!"
