Sanford Police are investigating two shootings, which resulted in one dead and one seriously injured.
On June 7, 2026, at approximately 3:20 am, Sanford Police received a 911 call reporting a possible shooting with injuries at Historic Goldsboro Blvd and Mangoustine Ave. Responding officers located a victim with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local area hospital.
As officers were responding to the initial call, shortly after the second 911 call, officers received an additional 911 call reporting another shooting at Historic Goldsboro Blvd and Pomegranate Ave. Officers located a male, later identified as Deion Fields (DOB 05/11/1994), dead from gunshot wounds.
During the initial investigation, Sanford Investigators located a person of interest in the area with a firearm. That individual is currently being treated in a local area hospital for mental health concerns.
Based on preliminary investigation, it is unknown if both shootings are related to each other. The circumstances surrounding what occurred are still under investigation; however, it appears to be an isolated incident, and there’s no immediate danger to the public.
Regarding today’s events, Chief Cecil Smith stated, “Our investigators are still working diligently to understand what happened to cause one young man to lose his life and send another to the hospital. We need our community to stand together with us and say that gun violence, and crimes associated with it will not be tolerated. We believe there were witnesses who saw something. We encourage them to come forward and work with us to take these violent individuals off our streets.”
Investigators are asking anyone with additional information about this incident to please contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 800 423-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimeline.org. Calls made to Crimeline remain anonymous.
