Florida’s First Virtual Retired Educators Conference

Florida’s First Virtual Retired Educators Conference

Florida’s first virtual retired educators conference was held recently and several Seminole County Retired Educator (SCREA)members were present to participate. Colonial Room in Sanford hosted the local chapter’s participation where members in attendance enjoyed a breakfast buffet and additional delicious treats throughout the day, including delightful desserts. The virtual conference included legislative updates, a touching memorial in honor of Florida members who have passed away this year, awards that included a 5th grade essay contest winner and numerous recognitions for various chapters for work completed throughout the year. Although the Seminole Chapter didn’t win the highest award, they were featured showcasing their involvement in local schools and through numerous community support activities. Officers were installed and Seminole has the district honor of having among its members, the newest elected Florida Retired Educators President, a Seminole County Retired Teacher and Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Carrie Frye. Mrs. Frye’s message to all Florida members was to actively pursue the issues deemed most important to Florida’s membership, including the long-discussed COLA. Also in attendance at the Colonial Room was the Florida Retired Educators Treasurer, Gail Hodges, who reported on the stability of the current financial records. Current local chapter President, Deborah Partridge, stated she was pleased with the local attendance and pledged the chapter’s support to Mrs. Frye for the upcoming year.

SCREA will resume meeting again in September with a 40th year celebration. Anyone retired from the educational field (not just teachers) is invited to join in the fun. For more information contact Deborah Partridge at [email protected]
