Coming off being named the Northwest League Pitcher of the Month for April for the Eugene Emeralds (High-A), former Seminole High School standout Charlie McDaniel was informed that he was being promoted to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Double-A) of the Eastern League, continuing his impressive march up the Minor League ladder.
An undrafted Free Agent signee out of Presbyterian College by the San Francisco Giants, McDaniel was informed of his of Pitcher of the Month honor on May 5 by Minor League Baseball after outstanding month of April on the mound for the Emeralds, boasting an impressive 1.10 ERA in four starts with 18 strikeouts and only three walks over 16.1 innings of work.
In nine starts with Eugene, McDaniel was 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA, allowing 18 runs (17 earned) on 42 hits with 39 strike outs and just eight walks over 38.1 innings before being promoted to Richmond on June 2.
His first start on June 5 did not go well, as he was touched for six earned runs on six hits with four walks and two strike outs over three innings against the Erie SeaWolves, but he did not figure in the decision.
On June 11, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound left-hander made his second start and got his first win, hurling six innings against the Harrisburg Senators, allowing two runs on four hits, with five strike outs and no walks.
In a little over a year, the former Fighting Seminole has made 34 appearances (12 starts) and going 12-7 with one save and an ERA of 4.02. He has thrown 147.2 innings, allowing 78 runs (66 earned) on 147 hits with 141 strike outs against just 37 bases on balls.
McDaniel signed with the Giants on July 19, 2024, and made his professional debut with the San Jose Giants (A League) on April 1, 2025.
He appeared in 16 games (5 starts) and went 7-6 with one save and a 2.59 ERA, allowing 27 runs (19 earned) with 63 strike outs and 16 walks over 66 innings and earned California League Pitcher of the Week honors on May 27 following a dominant outing against the Fresno Grizzlies on May 21, when he threw the final 5.0 innings, allowed no runs on just one hit, and struck out six to secure a 4-3 victory.
He was promoted to Eugene on July 29, 2025, and made seven starts, going 1-0 with a 5.77 ERA, allowing 25 runs (22 earned) with 32 strike outs and nine walks over 34.1 innings.
Prior to this season the 24-year-old was assigned to the Giants for Spring Training on February 22 and also was assigned to Team USA in the World Baseball Classic on March 3, but did make an
appearance before returning to the Emeralds.
Over his four years at Presbyterian College, McDaniel posted impressive numbers and broke multiple records. He recorded 56 starts, giving him the program's all-time career record for most starts as a Blue Hose pitcher. During his time on the mound, he struck out 241 batters, ranking him fourth all-time. He also secured 22 wins while allowing just 181 earned runs.
As a junior, he also helped lead Seminole High to the 2019 Florida High School Class 9A State Championship, pitching a complete game, 1-0, shutout over Miami Coral Reef in the Championship Game, including making a game-ending, diving, over-the-shoulder catch on a blooper behind the mound with the potential tying and winning runs on base.
As a senior in 2020, McDaniel had a 1.55 ERA and a 7-3 record and earned Florida High School Coaches Association All-State.
