Our officers are always saving lives, be it human, four-legged or feathered. On May 31, nightshift Officers Logan Smith and Luke Nakamura went out to the Riverside Subdivision off Twin River Blvd and Shadow Pine Court where they found an injured Anhinga at the edge of the pond. Officer Smith was able to net the bird and both officers discovered it had fishing line bound around its legs and wings. The officers immediately went into action to start to cut away the fishing line to free it. They were a bit worried it would not make it through, but it quickly got away, dove under water, then poked its head back up to let them know it was okay and probably say a birdie "thank you!" before swimming off. This body cam video shows the entire ordeal (it's a bit long, but certainly worth the watch, especially at the end when they set it free). In case you're wondering, they named the bird Guy.
