The Seminole County Fire Department’s (SCFD) Community Paramedicine Program has been named “Program of the Year” at the Atrium Health Mobile Integrated Health & Community Paramedicine Conference in Chicago. The annual national conference brings together frontline healthcare professionals, public safety agencies, and hospital-at-home programs from across the country.
SCFD’s program was selected from more than 80 submissions nationwide in recognition of its strong commitment to community health, innovative care model, and measurable positive outcomes for residents.
Since launching in 2022, SCFD’s Community Paramedicine Program has become a valuable resource for Seminole County residents by helping bridge gaps in healthcare access and reducing unnecessary emergency calls and hospital visits.
In 2025 alone, the program conducted nearly 2,500 home visits and served more than 250 enrolled residents. The program also achieved an enrollment rate of more than 90% and a graduation rate of 78%.
“We are extremely proud of our proactive healthcare approach that not only improves the quality of life for residents, but also helps reduce unnecessary strain on first responders, emergency rooms, and healthcare partners,” said Seminole County Fire Chief Matt Kinley. “This program allows us to identify needs before they become emergencies, build stronger relationships with the residents we serve, and help people successfully navigate the healthcare system. I commend all of our paramedics and personnel involved in making this program such a success.”
The Community Paramedicine Program focuses on residents who may lack access to primary healthcare services, frequently utilize 911 services, or are at risk of hospital readmission. Visits are tailored to each individual’s needs and may include medication education, wellness checks, fall prevention assessments, and connecting residents with community resources and healthcare providers.
Members of SCFD’s Community Paramedicine team also presented at the conference, highlighting the program’s integration of field personnel, healthcare systems, and social service partners, a collaborative approach that continues to distinguish the program nationally.
