Seminole County, Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka, and Wharton-Smith Construction Group recently celebrated a major milestone in the Legacy Square affordable housing development during a Wall Raising Ceremony. The event marked the next phase of construction for the new subdivision, which will create affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.
Legacy Square consists of 19 newly constructed single-family homes, including 10 homes made possible through Seminole County funding of $1.4 million. The project builds upon the success of Leadership Point, a six-home affordable housing development completed in 2024 using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Through careful stewardship of those initial funds, the County was able to reinvest proceeds from the sale of the homes into additional affordable housing projects, creating an ongoing source of funding that expands homeownership opportunities for local families.
Legacy Square also represents a collaborative effort to address the growing need for affordable housing in Central Florida. Through a combined investment of public and private funding—including more than $1 million in support from Wharton-Smith—the development highlights how government, nonprofit, and business partners can work together to expand affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.
