The Sanford Fire Department recently celebrated the official grand opening of Fire Station 40.

The City of Sanford and the Sanford Fire Department hosted the grand opening of Fire Station 40, located at 3390 Skyway Drive in Sanford. This 14,000 square foot facility will enhance the emergency services provided to Sanford residents and the surrounding areas.

This much anticipated event included a Hose Uncoupling Ceremony. This is a tradition in the fire service, symbolic of the hard work and dedication that lead to the completion and commissioning of the new fire station.

Fire Station 40 includes four apparatus bays to house Engine 40 and Rescue 40, with the possibility of a Tower to be added in the future.

“The opening of Station 40 shows the commitment of the Sanford City Commission to meeting our community’s needs as it grows,” said City of Sanford Mayor, Art Woodruff.  “This new station will provide faster response to the rapidly developing East Lake Mary Boulevard corridor and the Orlando-Sanford International Airport, ensuring our residents, businesses, and visitors continue to receive the highest level of safety and service.”

“Fire Station 40 will serve an area with more than 2,100 households. This station will improve emergency response time by more than two minutes in this growing area. Those two minutes are invaluable in critical incidents when every second matters,” said Fire Chief Ronnie McNeil of the Sanford Fire Department.
