Dozens of students on the island of Utila, Honduras and Instituto Adventista Utila School, now have working computers, thanks to a team from Spring Meadows Seventh-day Adventist Church and its generous benefactors.

“Before we came, only the 11th and 12th graders learned computer skills in small classrooms that had less than 10 old desktop computers each,” said Pia Soule, Spring Meadows’ mission trip coordinator. “With the 47 computers that we were able to get, about 24 were put in the 11th and 12th grade computer labs, and the rest, plus what could be salvaged of the old computers, were put in the new computer lab for grades 5-10 students.”

AdventHealth University, AdventHealth and Christian Computer Tech Ministries donated resources, such as laptops or funds.

“It is a long-standing practice here at AHU to donate laptops, desktops, etc. that have become too old for continued use at AHU,” said Travis Wooley, director of information systems at AHU. “It is our standard to offer them first to any non-profit that has expressed interest. We are glad to see them being used by school children.”

In addition to getting the computers operational, the church mission team painted the new computer lab, installed an air conditioner and windows, and donated funds for security bars to be added to windows.

Students are so excited to be learning to use computers, and parents we met thanked us profusely.  It's making a big difference in the lives of these students,” Soule said.
