Seminole County recently commemorated a pivotal moment in American history during an America 250 Celebration at the Seminole County Five Points Complex.
While the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, it was on July 8, 1776, that it was first read aloud publicly in Philadelphia. 250 years later, Seminole County marked this historic milestone with a reading by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The ceremony concluded with the planting of a symbolic Liberty Tree on Senator Lane within the Seminole County Five Points Complex. The tree was planted alongside the County's Lily Lake Garden, showcasing Florida native plants and reflecting Seminole County's commitment to preserving both the freedoms and natural resources entrusted to future generations.
Remarks were given by Chairman Andria Herr and Supervisor of Elections, Amy Pennock along with a reading of the Declaration of Independence by The Sallie Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, including Commissioner Amy Lockhart followed by the Liberty Tree planting ceremony.
