A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently hosted by Seminole County, the City of Sanford, and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the Lake Monroe Trail Loop Project.
The newly completed trail segment extends along Mellonville Avenue from East Seminole Boulevard to Celery Avenue and continues along Celery Avenue from Mellonville Avenue to just east of Sipes Avenue. The project represents a significant step toward expanding regional trail connectivity and completing a critical missing link between Sanford's RiverWalk and State Road 415 as part of the Lake Monroe Trail Loop.
Phase 1 was made possible through a collaborative partnership between Seminole County, the City of Sanford and FDOT. Funding for the project was provided through a combination of Seminole County's voter-approved Infrastructure Sales Tax, commonly known as the Penny Sales Tax, and a Local Agency Program (LAP) agreement with FDOT.
