The Continental Congress, which is the annual national gathering and governing session of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution convenes each year in Washington, D.C. to conduct the official business of the Society, celebrate service, and unite Daughters from across the nation. During the 135th Continental Congress, held June 24–28, one of the most meaningful moments was the annual gathering of the Daughters of Color with President General Virginia “Ginny” Sebastian Storage. Captured in this commemorative photograph, women from across the country assembled in a spirit of patriotism, fellowship, and shared purpose, honoring both their Revolutionary ancestry and the diverse stories that enrich the fabric of American history.
The annual photograph has become an important tradition within the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Preserved in the Society’s archives, it serves as a historical record documenting the growing diversity of DAR membership and the organization’s commitment to welcoming women whose patriot ancestors helped establish our nation.
Standing together beneath the elegant surroundings of Memorial Continental Hall, the women represent many professions, backgrounds, cultures, and chapters, yet are united by a common bond: proving lineal descent from those who supported the cause of American independence.
President General “Ginny” Sebastian Storage graciously joined the group, recognizing the significance of this annual gathering and the important contributions these members make to the Society’s mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
For many attendees, including first-time Continental Congress participant Andrea Josiah who happens to be a member of our local DAR Chapter Sallie Harrison founded in 1918, the photograph represents more than a keepsake. It symbolizes generations of perseverance. Many members have spent years uncovering family histories, documenting Revolutionary War patriots, and preserving stories that were once overlooked or difficult to trace. Their presence in this photograph reflects not only their own accomplishments but also honors the ancestors whose sacrifices made their membership possible.
As DAR celebrates America’s 250th anniversary, this image reminds us that the nation’s founding story belongs to all who helped build it. The continued inclusion and recognition of every Patriot’s legacy strengthen our understanding of American history and ensures that future generations inherit a richer, more complete narrative.
This annual portrait will stand as a testament to unity, service, and the enduring truth that preserving history means preserving every story that helped shape our nation.
