CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After nearly letting a season-opening victory slip away on Saturday in Blacksburg, Virginia, the UCF volleyball team came in and took care of business with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-21 and 25-18) sweep against Charlotte Sunday afternoon in Halton Arena in North Carolina.
The Knights, now 2-0 on the young season, recorded nine aces with six of those coming in the first set. UCF kept Charlotte (1-3) to a .067 attacking percentage, meanwhile the Black and Gold notched a .337 with 40 kills.
Avah Armour led the charge with 13 kills and two aces. Chloe Scheer showed out on the defensive side with 10 digs. Katelyn Grimes tallied eight digs and a match-high four aces. In her Knights debut, Megan Holland recorded two kills and one solo block.
As if the start of the season wasn’t exciting enough on Saturday, UCF Head Volleyball Coach Jenny Maurer collected her 100th win in the team’s 3-2 (25-15, 25-10, 19-25, 23-25 and 15-13) win over Virginia Tech on Saturday evening in the Cassell Coliseum.
Three Knights recorded double digits in kills as Armour led the pack with 16 kills followed by Carlson (14) and Heidi Bonde (12). Abby Schomers dished out 40 assists. Armour and Schomers each notched a double-double with 10 digs a piece. In her Black and Gold debut, Sasha Cohen recorded a match-high three aces.

The Knights head back to the Sunshine State for the rest of their non-conference schedule. UCF heads to DeLand for two matches at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center, starting with host Stetson Thursday at 6 p.m. followed by UNC-Wilmington on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Hatters (2-1) opened the season at The Bash at the Beach in Bethune-Cookman University’s Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach over the weekend, dropping a 3-0 (29-27, 25-22 and 25-14) decision to Portland on Friday, before bouncing back later that afternoon with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18 and 25-11) win over Manhattan and a hard-fought 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-12) triumph over the host Wildcats on Saturday.
