Seminole County hosting water safety seminars from national grant

A national grant is now funding drowning prevention courses for First Responders and Code Enforcement Officers in Seminole County.

This grant stems from Seminole County being awarded a two-year, $194,535 pool safety grant by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The grant was provided for pool safety, education, training, and enforcement.

Of that amount, $40,000 has been set aside to provide water safety education to first responders, code enforcement personnel, and other public safety professionals. The focus of the seminars will be on identifying pool safety hazards and implementing drowning prevention strategies to better protect residents.

A Sanford-based company, Swim Life, who focuses on survival-oriented swimming for children, along with the Seminole County Community Health Division and the Seminole County Fire Department, will be the hosts of the training seminars.

Seminole County finds it crucial to emphasize events and initiatives like this stating, “as the leading cause of death for children ages one to four in Florida, drowning prevention education and training remains critical.”
