Here we have a world in turmoil, the Russians are beating up on the Ukrainians in Ukraine while that country is invading Russia, Hamas is killing hostages and it is Israel's fault, the Houthi are sinking oil tankers, China and the Philippines are sinking each other's boats, Japan is rearming, Elon Musk is fighting with Brazil, Boeing not only owns the FAA but also NASA, our great country seized the Venezuelan President's plane in the Dominican Republic, and Sanford wants to raise utility rates by 7.5%.
Is that last one really true? That is what the Mayor told his followers on Facebook. (If you are among the great unwashed that don't have a Facebook presence, too bad, you don't count)
The City paid a consultant to recommend the 7.5% raise. There is no evidence in the Facebook message that the City or the consultant looked at sending untreated sewage to the County at Yankee Lake. In the past, whenever asked, the reply is that it would cost $150 million to do so.
You know what? The City is already sending untreated sewage to Yankee Lake! If it sent more, maybe a raise in utility rates of 7.5% would not be necessary or could be lower.
