Lion’s Club learns from Optometrists

Lion’s Club learns from Optometrists

Special to the Herald

Trained volunteer Lion Kathy Littlefield (picture right)  demonstrates the retina camera with Mt. Dora Lion, Dr. Glenn. The digital images captured by this camera are evaluated by volunteer physicians who diagnose eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of preventable blindness and can go undiagnosed for years causing irreversible vision damage. Diagnosed early, interventions can prevent further deterioration and preserve vision.

Dr. Francisco Richardson (center picture) contributes countless hours to the Project Right to Sight Vision Clinic every month, evaluating our clients free of charge and providing compassionate care while determining prescription strength. Dr. Richardson is a graduate of Oviedo High School.

Our volunteer Optician Dale (picture to left) generously gives of his time, skills, and labor making sure that each patient is matched with the exact prescription that they need. If we do not have a pair of glasses in our donated inventory that meets their prescription, he takes the necessary measurements to create a pair of glasses just for them.
