SANFORD — After almost two weeks of daily rains and storms, the Lake Monroe Sailing Association (LMSA) was able to get in a couple of big races this past week without any delays.
Last Saturday (September 14) the club contested its monthly LMSA Members Club Race Series, sponsored by Sanford Brewing for the Hayden Trophy, for September. And for the first time in several months, the group was able to get in all three scheduled races, despite windy conditions and very rough waters.
When it was all said and done it was Wicklow Way, under the direction of Richard Bailey, that had a great afternoon, winning two of the three races and finishing second in the other race to accumulate four points.
Show Me, captained by Andy Forrest, recorded two seconds and a fourth to finish second with eight points, one better than both Gen 4, under Fisk Hayden, and Ole Yeller, under Max Perez.
The other individual race winner was Jim White on Bad JuJu, who was only able to run the one race.
Next up was the weekly Goslings Rum Race on Wednesday and this time the sailing conditions were perfect and 11 boats took to Lake Monroe with Gen 4, with a crew of Fisk Hayden, Steve, Angie and Monique, racing away to a 4-1/2 minute victory over Plan B, under Ray Laguna, and just under 5-minutes over Gailey and Wicklow Way.
