SANFORD — After 30 years as an educator at Seminole High School, Coach Sylvester Wynn is off to retirement.
A Bokey legend, he was a standout basketball player, great coach, all around great guy and is a member of the Seminole High School Athletic Hall of Fame. During lunch on Friday (September 27), SHS celebrated Wynn with a pep rally just for him.
The Sanford native, who played at Seminole before graduating from Lake Howell in 1980, has been a teacher, coach or administrator at the local school since 1986.
After serving as a Junior Varsity Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for the boys team, he shifted over to the Girls Program and led the Fighting Seminoles to a 292-166 record over 17 seasons, including a berth in the State Final 4 in 2014, before returning to the Boys Program and turning it into a power.
Over 10 seasons, the Tribe went 211-73 with six straight District Championships, two Regional Championships, five Regional Runner-ups and two State Final 4 appearances, including a State Runners-up in 2020.
Wynn finishes his coaching career with a 503-239 overall varsity coaching record and this past January 10 the floor in the Dr. Bill Vogel Gymnasium was dedicated to the longtime coach and administrator.
