LMSA

  * Today (Wednesday) _ Ladies on the Lake Wednesday Night Series. The first Wednesday Night Race of each Month will be considered the Ladies on the Lake Wednesday Night Series and will be open to all ladies who want to participate. All rules of the Wednesday Night Goslings Rum Race will apply to this series. If you are looking to crew, be down at the ramp by 6 p.m. If you are sailing, the starting window will be between 6:25 p.m.-and-6:30 p.m.

   * Thursday _ The postponed September LMSA Membership Meeting will be held from 7 p.m.-to-8 p.m. at the LMSA Club House (531 North Palmetto Avenue).

   * Wednesday (October 9, 16, 23, 30) _ Goslings Rum Wednesday Night Race at 6 p.m. A beautiful sunset race, social at Filomena's with STICKERS and a BOOZE RAFFLE!    * Saturday, October 12 _ Ladies on the Lake Charity Regatta. Only a few weeks until The Ladies on the Lake Charity Regatta. SANFORD ADULT SOFTBALL

   The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Fall Season opens with the Semi-Co-Ed/Fun League tonight (Wednesday) with three games beginning at 6:30 p.m. Schedules were not available at print time because of website maintenance.

  Everyone is invited to watch the games for free at Pinehurst Park on West 24th Street.

UCF VOLLEYBALL

   The UCF volleyball team (7-4, 0-2) had a rough trip to Kansas last week, dropping a pair of 3-0 decisions to No. 9 Kansas (10-1, 1-0), 25-16, 31-29 and 25-22, on Wednesday night inside the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence and Kansas State (3-8, 1-1) on Friday, 25-23, 30-28 and 25-13, in Morgan Family Arena in Manhattan.

   Britt Carlson led the way against Kansas with 13 kills. Avah Armour and Emily Wilson each notched 11 kills, while Sasha Cohen added 10. Chloe Scheer led the match with 14 digs and served up an ace.

   Against K-State, Wilson led the squad with 11 kills and two aces. Armour and Sophia Kotsovolos led with 11 digs a piece. Armour tallied nine kills while Cohen tacked on another eight with three blocks.

   Up Next:

   The Knights return to Orlando for a matchup against West Virginia tonight (Wednesday) with first serve set for 7 p.m. at The Venue.

 

ORLANDO CITY

   Orlando City SC (13-11-7, 46 points) secured a 3-1 victory against FC Dallas (10-14-7, 37 points) on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium. With the win, City have officially clinched a spot in the top seven of the standings along with a place in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. Head Coach Oscar Pareja has led the Lions to a playoff spot every year since he took over as manager.

   Scoring Summary:

   * 18’ - Ramiro Enrique (Rafael Santos, Martín Ojeda) – ORL 1, DAL 0 _ The Lions got things started early when Martín Ojeda fed the ball out wide to Rafael Santos on the left wing of the Dallas defense. The Brazilian left back took a touch to settle before firing a cross to the near post where Ramiro Enrique slammed home the header to get the Lions on the board.

   * 51’ - Rodrigo Schlegel (Martín Ojeda) – ORL 2, DAL 0 _ Orlando City added another shortly after the start of the second half off a corner kick opportunity. Martín Ojeda took the corner, sending an outswinger to the middle of the Dallas box. Defender Rodrigo Schlegel beat his man and sent a header to the far corner of the goal for the Lions’ second of the night.

   * 55’ - Facundo Torres (Ramiro Enrique) – ORL 3, DAL 0 _ The Lions added a third just four minutes later. Ramiro Enrique capitalized on a chaotic sequence in the midfield, with the ball changing possession numerous times, before sending a through ball to Facundo Torres. Torres was one-on-one with the Dallas goalkeeper and calmly slotted it into the lower right corner for the tally.

   * 78’ - Paul Arriola (Penalty Kick) – ORL 3, DAL 1 _ The Toros got a goal back on a penalty kick from captain Paul Arriola. Dallas built up an attack in the Orlando defensive zone before Bernard Kamungo was taken down in the box. The home side was rewarded a penalty and Arriola stepped up and sent a shot past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to cut the lead down to two.

   Next Match:

   The Lions will next return to Orlando to host the Philadelphia Union at Inter&Co Stadium tonight (Wednesday). The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

STETSON VOLLEYBALL

   The Stetson volleyball team (3-11, 0-3) fell to Queens College (4-9, 1-1), 3-0 (25-19, 25-12 and 25-22) on Sunday at Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center.

   Anabelle Standish led the team in kills with eight followed by Jenna Simmons with six. Leilani Vitale tallied 13 assists for a team high. Defensively, Haruka Sugimoto totaled a team leading 16 digs.

   The Hatters were coming off a 4-set loss to West Georgia (8-5, 1-0) on Friday, 29-27, 10-25, 25-22 and 25-18, despite Standish finishing with a team high 18 kills followed by Simmons with 14. Vitale led the team in assists with 25 followed by Selin Kalkan with 15. Defensively,  Sugimoto finished with a team high 19 digs and Vitale led the team in total blocks with 3.5.

   Up Next:

   Stetson has a showdown in Jacksonville at North Florida on Friday at 7 p.m.

 

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER

    After dropping a 4-0 decision to Kansas (5-3-3, 2-2-0) on Thursday evening at KU’s Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas, the UCF Women’s Soccer Team (3-2-4, 1-1-2) saw Mia Asenjo score the equalizer in the 71st minute and Sami Lipcon post a couple of clutch saves in goal to help lead the Knights, who were without leading scorer Chloe Netzel, to a 1-1 draw at Kansas State Sunday afternoon at Buser Family Park in Manhattan.

   Up Next:

   The Black and Gold will close a three-game road stretch at West Virginia on Friday at 7 p.m.  

 

UCF MEN’S SOCCER

   Anderson Rosa’s 84th minute goal proved to be the difference as the UCF men’s soccer team (3-2-3, 1-1-0 SBC) edged the Georgia State Panthers (3-5-1, 0-2-0 SBC), 2-1, after a 72-minute mid-match lightning delay at the UCF Soccer Complex Sunday evening.

   The Knights took an early lead when Rosa sent a corner kick into the box which was met by a leaping Alex Smith, who cashed in on the team’s early scoring chance with a well-executed header.

   The visitors answered with a goal in the final 1:31 of the first half and it stayed the way until late when Joey Mueller gathered a long pass from Jonas Fritschi in the near corner and dribbled a few paces before sending a pass toward the middle of the box.

   The ball ricocheted off a Panthers defender and right to the waiting feet of Rosa at the top of the box, who took a beat to settle the ball before his left-footed strike sailed past the conference leader in total saves (38) and saves per game (4.75) in Georgia State goalkeeper Josh Hangi.

   Up Next:

   Riding their third win of the season, the Knights will hit the road once again for a matchup with the No. 6 West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday at 7 p.m. from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va., and will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

ORLANDO PRIDE

   The Orlando Pride (16-0-6, 54 points) extended its unbeaten streak to 22 matches in a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dash (4-13-5, 17 points) on Saturday night at Inter&Co Stadium. The side did so in front of crowd of 17,087 – a new team record at Inter&Co Stadium and the second highest attendance record in the team’s history.

   Scoring Summary:

   * 29’ - Carson Pickett (Cori Dyke) – ORL 1, HOU 0 _ The Pride pulled ahead for an early 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Marta gathered control on the outside of Houston’s defensive zone before sending a pass back to defender Cori Dyke. Dyke sent a long cross inside the box to an unmarked Carson Pickett who headed in her first-ever goal as a member of the Pride.

   * 51’ - Angelina – ORL 2, HOU 0 _ The Pride doubled their lead early in the second half from Angelina. Barbra Banda maneuvered her way into the box before a Houston defender got a foot on the ball. Angelina quickly got control back and took a touch before drilling a shot past the Houston goalkeeper from well outside the box.

   * 53’ - Yuki Nagasato (Elin Rubensson) – ORL 2, HOU 1 _ Just two minutes later, the Dash got one back on a goal from Yuki Nagasato. Houston built up an attack deep in the Orlando defensive zone led by Elin Rubensson. Rubensson pushed ahead and led Yuki Nagasato inside the box, beating an Orlando defender to the pass and slipped a quick touch past goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse to cut the lead in half.

   * 90+2’ - Marta (Barbra Banda) – ORL 3, HOU 1 _ Orlando extended its lead back to two goals and iced that match with a second-half stoppage time finish from Marta. The Pride captain received a pass from Barbra Banda and dribbled her way in the midfield and into the Houston box before sending a low shot to the bottom right corner of the net.

   Next Match:

   The Pride will remain home at Inter&Co Stadium to take on the Washington Spirit on Sunday. The match is set to kick off at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN 2.
