“Salt of the Earth” Poem by Lewis Alexander

“Salt of the Earth” Poem by Lewis Alexander

By Lewis Alexander

Salt of the Earth

Matthew 5:13

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

We are the salt, the earth’s pure light,

To cleanse, to heal, to guard the night.

Bring flavor to the world,

stand tall, hold fast.

For if you fade, you lose it all.

Hold fast your spark, your call, your grace,

Or fall to dust, with no lasting trace.
