SANFORD — All Parks and Recreation Facilities closed at noon on Tuesday, October 8. Following Hurricane Milton, these Facilities will be reopened as quickly as possible, after damage and safety assessments are completed. Currently, we anticipated the reopening of all Facilities to begin on Friday, October 11.
Facilities included are:
· Sanford Museum.
· Sanford Civic Center.
· Bettye D. Smith Cultural Arts Center.
· Sanford Senior Center.
· Tim Raines Sports Park, including the Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium, Zinn Beck Field, and the Herbert “Whitey” Eckstein – Chase Park.
· Larry A. Dale Aquatic Center.
· Jeff Triplett Community Center.
· Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center.
· All Parks, Trails, Courts and Pavilions.
After School Programming, at the Jeff Triplett Community Center and the Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center, were canceled following their regular closing scheduled on Monday, October 7. After-school programming will resume in conjunction with Seminole County Public Schools resuming classes.
All outdoor recreation games, practices, and activities were canceled until damage and safety assessments are completed with hopes of resuming on Friday, October 11.
Project Sanford’s Alive After 5 event scheduled on Thursday, October 10, will be rescheduled to Thursday, October 17.
The 2-Day October Rally, under The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department and Central Florida Soap Box Derby, scheduled for this weekend, Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, has been canceled.
All City of Sanford Parks and Trails were closed, starting at noon on Tuesday, until further notice. All park pavilion rentals are canceled until further notice.
Once the weather has subsided, we will have crews out assessing our sites to ensure there are no hazards to the public. This may take some time depending on the amount of damage sustained. Please be patient and avoid these areas as we work to ensure the sites are safe for you to use.
