UCF VOLLEYBALL

After having its game with Colorado set for Wednesday postponed to Sunday and Iowa State on Friday cancelled because of the threat of Hurricane Milton, the UCF volleyball team (8-6, 1-4 Big 12) came up short against Colorado (9-8, 2-3), 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-11), on Sunday afternoon in The Venue. After the Buffaloes took a 2-1 lead in the match, the Knights countered by winning the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set before falling in a five-set battle.

The Knights recorded 67 kills and 63 digs, while the Buffaloes (9-8, 2-3) tallied 63 kills and 56 digs. Emily Wilson led the Knights, recording a career-high 23 kills. Heidi Bonde put up an additional 15 kills, while both Alexia Kuehl and Britt Carlson added on with 10 kills each. Abby Schomers ran the offense with 26 assists and tallied her third double-double of the season with 12 digs. Mya Ball split time with Schomers at the setter position and had a career-high 25 assists. Chloe Scheer recorded her 13th double-digit dig performance of the season with 22.

UCF WOMEN’S SOCCER

Despite scoring a pair of second half goals, UCF women’s soccer fell to Big 12 newcomer Arizona (9-3-2, 4-2-1 Big 12), 3-2, on Thursday night in neutral-site action at UH’s Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston, Texas.

Originally scheduled as a home match for the Knights, Thursday’s contest was moved to the University of Houston earlier in the week due to Hurricane Milton.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, the Knights were the aggressors in the early stages of the second half. Honoka Hamano managed to put the Black and Gold on the board with a goal in the 47th minute to make it a one-goal game. The goal marked Hamano’s second of the season and was assisted by Maria Tregansin.

UCF leading scorer Chloe Netzel managed to tie things up with her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 62nd minute. Netzel’s goal was scored in the bottom right corner and assisted by Tregansin for Tregansin’s first collegiate two assist game.

The Wildcats were later awarded a penalty kick in the 81st minute, as UCF’s Kyleigh Thelen was whistled for a foul in the box. Arizona’s Christiansen managed to convert the PK for her second goal of the game to give UA a late 3-2 advantage.

On Sunday, behind strong play from keeper Genesis Perez Watson and the Black and Gold backline, the UCF women’s soccer team concluded a lengthy road trip with a 0-0 draw at Colorado on Sunday afternoon at Prentup Field in Boulder.

Perez Watson made a season and career-high 14 saves en route to helping the Knights move to 3-4-5 overall and earn a point in Big 12 play as they up their league record to 1-3-3. Colorado, who is currently receiving votes for this week’s United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and ranked as high as 14th in the nation a week ago, moves to 10-2-3 overall and 4-1-3 in conference play with the result.

The 14 saves from Perez Watson ties for the most saves of any Big 12 keeper on the season. Houston’s Olivia Dietrich also had a 14-save game against UTSA in non-conference action on Aug. 29. The 14 save performance from Perez Watson also ties for the seventh-most saves in program history.

Sunday’s contest marked the conclusion of five consecutive games away from home for the Knights as well as UCF’s final regular season road match. It also marked the first all-time meeting between the Knights and Buffaloes on the pitch.

   Up Next:

The Black and Gold will now return home for their final three contests of the regular season. UCF will start the three-game home stand by welcoming No. 12 TCU to town on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Knights will also host Oklahoma State (Sunday, 12:30 p.m.) and Cincinnati (Friday, Oct. 25) during the stretch.

Stay tuned to UCFKnights.com and @UCF_WSoccer for updates.

STETSON VOLLEYBALL

The Stetson volleyball team (3-14, 0-6) fell to Bellarmine (5-11, 2-4) in three sets Sunday afternoon in a match that was moved back a day due to Hurricane Milton.

The Hatters fell down early in the first set and dropped it 25-16. The team battled back for set two after being down most of the set. Stetson tied it at 19 but eventually fell in the second set 25-23.

Stetson once again had to battle back in the third set. They were able to battle back and take a 17-14 lead with a three-point scoring run. The Knights tied the set up at 18 and the two teams battled before the Hatters fell 25-22.

Jenna Simmons led the team in kills with 8 followed by three different players who were tied with five kills. Elif Yasar racked up 21 assists. Zuzanna Rut led the team in blocks as she tallied four total blocks.

UCF MEN’S SOCCER

The UCF men’s soccer team (3-4-3, 1-3-0 SBC) saw the return of a pair of key players from injury Sunday evening, but the team fell to the visiting No. 6 Marshall Thundering Herd, 2-0, at the UCF Soccer Complex.

Fifth year senior Lucca Dourado and junior goalkeeper Juanvi Muñoz, out of match action since Aug. 31 and Aug. 25, respectively, as they recovered from injuries they sustained, both made their return to the pitch with the sixth-ranked Herd (8-1-2, 3-0-1 SBC).

The matchup represented the Knights’ fourth against a ranked opponent this season, as well as the highest-ranked opponent hosted by the Black and Gold since the squad welcomed the then-No. 4 West Virginia Mountaineers to Orlando Sept. 15, 2023.

The reigning 2023 Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament champion Thundering Herd jumped out to a quick one-goal advantage just 75 seconds into the contest, giving UCF a deficit it was unable to overcome. Marshall then doubled its lead in the 24th minute.

In spite of the Herd’s early offensive momentum, the Knights managed to shut Marshall out throughout the final 66:57 of gametime, yielding only three shot attempts to the visitors in the second half.

Dourado paced the squad offensively, producing a team high three shot attempts and one of his team’s three total shots on goal. Muñoz, on the other end, made one save in his first action between the goalposts since leading the Knights to a 1-1 draw with then-No. 23 Seattle Aug. 25.

   Up Next:

The Knights will look to jump back into the win column in the second of their current three-match homestand, when the team will welcome the Old Dominion Monarchs to Orlando. Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m. from the UCF Soccer Complex Friday, Oct. 18, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
