SANFORD — A long time coming.
Taking advantage of its opportunities, visiting Lake Mary (5-2, 2-0) held off previously unbeaten Seminole (6-1, 1-1), 29-14, at Thomas E. Whigham Stadium in the Tim Raines Athletic Complex to clinch the Class 7A-District 3 Championship, the Rams’ first district title since 2014.
Noah Grubbs threw a pair of touchdown passes and Emilio Bacardi made three field goals to highlight the Lake Mary offense, while Seminole quarterback Jeysen Williams, starting in place of injured starter Michael Clayton, threw for one touchdown and ran for another.
Special teams played an important part in this rivalry game as both teams blocked a punt and the Rams also recovered a botched punt, each of which led to touchdowns.
The Neighborhood battle was just one of seven games played on Monday to make up for contests postponed from Thursday and Friday by Hurricane Milton.
Lyman was to have hosted Melbourne on Tuesday.
Because of the lateness of the games and the deadlines at the Herald, a complete recap will appear in the upcoming weekend edition.
