UCF MEN’S SOCCER
The recent respective returns from injury of Lucca Dourado and Juanvi Muñoz have not only served as confidence-boosters for the duo as they continue their road to full health; the veterans’ presence has injected new life into their teammates as well.
In just their second game on the pitch since they missed a combined 13 matches, the duo helped propel the UCF men’s soccer team (4-4-3, 2-3-0 SBC) to a 2-0 victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs at the UCF Soccer Complex Friday evening.
In blanking the Monarchs (4-6-2, 0-4-1), UCF also notched its second clean sheet of the season. Muñoz’s two-save showing clinched his first shutout of the year and the sixth of his two-plus-year collegiate career as well.
Two key deflections made Dourado’s score possible, beginning with junior Clarence Awoudor’s deflected cross that made its way to the feet of Ousmane Ba, who sent the ball right back toward the Monarchs’ goal and deposited by Dourado, who was stationed just outside the six-yard box.
The Black and Gold added their second score in the 89th minute of action, a tally that marked the first collegiate goal for Mouhamed Pouye with 74 seconds to play. Jonas Fritschi passed up his control of the ball near the middle of his team’s offensive end for Anderson Rosa, who dribbled a few paces before sending the ball Pouye’s way just in front of him.
The sophomore executed a quick one-touch shot just outside the six-yard box, and the ball floated into the Old Dominion net.

The Knights fall to 3-6-5 overall and 1-5-3 in conference play with the setback, while the Cowgirls move to 13-2-3 and 6-2-2 in league play with the result.
“Today was heartbreaking. We’re in a really tough patch right now. My job as the leader is to keep the camaraderie and positivity still there when things just aren’t going your way,” head UCF coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. “This is on me. I’ve got to find a way to rally the team right now for our last home game.”
The contest marked the second of a current three-match homestand to close the regular season for the Black and Gold.

Following other results from around the league on Decision Day, the Lions secured the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and will host No. 5 Charlotte FC in Round One of the best-of-three series in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Scoring Summary:
* 7’ - Saba Lobjanidze (Pedro Amador) – ATL 1, ORL 0 _ The visiting side jumped out to an early lead just seven minutes into the match on a give-and-go inside the Orlando City box. With Atlanta putting pressure on the Lions’ back line, Saba Lobjanidze gained control inside the box before dropping off a pass to Pedro Amador just inside the box. Amador quickly returned a feed to a cutting Lobjanidze who sent a shot into the far side of the net.
* 16’ - Jamal Thiaré – ATL 2, ORL 0 _ Less than 10 minutes later, the Five Stripes doubled their lead on a goal from Jamal Thiaré. An initial corner kick attempt for Atlanta was saved by Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese but the Lions couldn’t get a clean clearance, and the ball deflected to Thiaré on the far side of the goal, and he was able to get a quick touch on the ball and sent it into the back of the net.
* 42’ - Martín Ojeda (Rafael Santos) – ATL 2, ORL 1 _ The Lions got one back just before halftime on a header from Martín Ojeda. Orlando pushed forward into the Atlanta box and Dagur Dan Thórhallsson crossed the ball to the left side of the field to Rafael Santos.
