County football teams win six of 10 game

It’s down to nitty-gritty time for Seminole County High School football teams.

Programs tuned up for the final week of district play by winning six of the 10 games played.

There were a couple of big wins as Lake Mary (6-2) cruised past Evans (5-3), 31-6, and Lake Mary Prep (5-4) pulled off a 29-28 upset of previously unbeaten Donahue Catholic Academy (7-1) from Ave Maria.

Other winners saw Trinity Preparatory School (1-7) get its first win of the season in a 24-20 ‘upset’ of Cedar Creek Christian High School (3-4) of Jacksonville, The Master’s Academy (8-1) use a record-setting performance to ease past Mount Dora Christian Academy (7-2), 42-14, and Lake Brantley (3-6) and Orangewood Christian (5-4) post shutouts over Orlando-University (1-7), 35-0, and Faith Christian High School (4-5), 15-0, respectively.

But there were a few tough losses as well as Seminole (6-2) rallied from a 22-13 halftime deficit to take a 25-22 heading into the fourth quarter, but host The First Academy (7-1) scored the final 14 points to hand the Fighting Seminoles their second straight loss, 36-25, in Orlando; Oviedo (6-2) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end as Orange City-University (7-1) scored the final 16 points in a 30-20 victory; and Lake Howell (1-7) put a scare into unbeaten Windermere High (8-0) before falling 21-13.

The final district week got off to an early _ and successful _ start as The Geneva School (6-3) and Lake Mary Prep both won make-up games, 19-13 over All Saints Academy (2-3) from Winter Haven and 63-20 over defending state champion Liberty Christian Prep (0-8) in Tavares, respectively, in SSAA (Sunshine State Athletic Association) 6-man football action on Monday. Both teams will also close out the regular season later this week.
