City of Longwood Fire Department hosts Change of Command Ceremony

City of Longwood Fire Department hosts Change of Command Ceremony

Special to the Herald

The City of Longwood recently hosted the Fire Department's Change of Command ceremony, honoring the transition of leadership within the department. This significant event took place at the Longwood Community Building, located at 200 W. Warren Avenue..

A Change of Command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally symbolizes the transfer of authority and responsibility from one commanding officer to another. This ceremony not only recognizes the accomplishments and service of the outgoing fire chief but also formally welcomes and introduces the new fire chief to the community and the department.

The tradition of the Change of Command dates back to the Roman army, where the passing of the baton or sword signified the official transfer of command. In modern times, it is a ceremonial passing of the department’s colors, symbolizing the continuity of leadership and the dedication of the fire department to serving the community.

The City of Longwood proudly honored Fire Chief Michael Peters for his dedicated service and introduced new Fire Chief Troy Feist, who will lead the department forward with the same commitment to excellence and community safety.
